All my life I've wanted to see a tornado. I've chased severe storms for years, a fun thing to do in the Canadian end of tornado alley. Earlier this summer I was watching a particularly serious storm and was rewarded with this. My father took the actual photo and we submited it to the Winnipeg Free Press, in turn selling it to the Canadian Photo Archives. I'll never forget it and I'm determined to see another one next year, no matter how far I have to go.

Wow... even that's too close for me!

Wow. I am envious.
But did you ever hear about the tornados that ripped through southern Missouri an few years ago? I doubt it, but I was down there when it happened. After the storm passed we (meaning my dad, my brother, and me) went up to the nearest city and it was just aweful...

It is a beautiful shot, indeed! It is kind of weird how there is dark grey storm clouds in front while there are white cotton clouds and a blue sky in the background. Cool, but weird...

incredible capture..

Wow. That is EXACTLY what I want to do someday. I chase whatever storms I see, but without a car it's kind of impossible to find any activity like this.

Whereabouts did you take this shot?
:iconnexusmind:
It was actualy just out my back door a few mintues south of Winnipeg, Manitoba. I've always loved storms... and been sort of stupidly unafraid of lightning and wind. I spotted it and called my dad out to grab the shot (so technically it was a team effort). It was a rush, another one made it almost half way to the ground in nearly the same spot this year. The shot and incredibly lame interview with me actualy made the front page of the Winnipeg Free Press.

I live in Winnipeg, hence my asking. =) I am out there in every good storm I see, but I've only ever caught some nice mammatus clouds... which actually took place in Regina last weekend during their folk festival.

Did it really? I hope you kept that particular newspaper, that's hilarious. Some day, some day, that'll be my lame interview... I hope. Winnipeg's storms have really sucked this year... figures, just when I move in.
:iconnexusmind:
Right, should have looked at your page. Hello fellow peg resident!

I'm sort of a storm addict, and yeah, this has been a slow year. I was away for June but apparently didn't miss much then either. Damn, I wanted to go to a folk fest of some kind this year. I even missed the Winnipeg one cause I had just returned from travel and was flat broke. Sadly I missed Bruce Cockburn. Who played Regina this year?

I'm sort of a storm addict myself! Nice. =P

Winnipeg has a larger lineup (and larger festival than Regina's), but this year Regina had Ani DiFranco, so my sister and I went there instead. I wasn't a fan of hers until actually seeing her on stage. She's mind-boggling. Utah Phillips, T.O.F.U, Feist, The Alex Cuba Band, Bedouin Soundclash and Steve Earle are a few who I can remember, who were really excellent.
